Thursday “Think On These Things” Report
Correction is True Comfort
We have all fallen victim to finding comfort in things we enjoy, things that make us feel good, entertainment and pleasure. But none of those things are the source of true comfort. Which means we have all succumb to a counterfeit or artificial comfort. Meanwhile, the source of true comfort is often neglected and refused because it does not fit our framework of how comfort should feel.
True comfort comes from correction, but ask yourself this, “Who actually wants to be corrected?!” Correction brings true comfort because it shows you the right way of doing, which then alleviates ALL the symptoms of sin.
When Job loss all of his possessions and loved ones, and even his health, he sought desperately for comfort for his grief. And in the end he was comforted, but not because of God restoring his wealth, but because God had finally made him aware as to why he was suffering the whole ordeal in the first place. That is because comfort does not come from material things, though they might provide a moment of pleasure, but rather comes from the Father who chastens those who he loves! Would you be willing to allow the Father to comfort you with HIs rod of correction or will you rather settle for a counterfeit comfort as a substitute? The choice is yours. Choose wisely.
John 14:16 “And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever;”
John 15:26 “But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, He shall testify of me.”
Psalm 23:4 “Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.”
Hebrews 12:6 “For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth.”
